History of the Family Business

Dale, our founder, has a rich history of entrepreneurship and a deep passion for wood. Over 40 years ago, Dale moved to Pine Plains, NY, from Kent, CT, where he taught mathematics and science before venturing into real estate development. He built high-end homes, including two passive solar model homes, which gained significant attention, even from The New York Times.

After moving to Pine Plains, Dale restored a Victorian mansion, turning it into a successful bed and breakfast. His journey continued as he became an investor in the restoration of the historic Stissing House, transforming it from a dilapidated shell into a thriving restaurant. Dale also had a part in building the Pine Plains post office.

Dale's love for wood led him to start Antique Vintage Woods of America, reclaiming and reselling wood worldwide. This passion continues with his latest venture, TapNZ, using salvaged wood from the Tappan Zee Bridge to build affordable, high-quality structures. Now, Dale is now focused on creating small, affordable one-bedroom homes using these reclaimed materials.
